The French-Azerbaijan University (UFAZ)

The French-Azerbaijan University (UFAZ) is an ambitious project initiated by the President of the French Republic of Azerbaijan in 2015.

On the French side, the project includes a consortium of French universities led by the University of Strasburg (Unistra). On the Azerbaijan side, it is run by the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU) in close collaboration with the Minsitry of Education of Azerbaijan. Opened in September 2016, UFAZ educates today 283 students divided among 4 specialties at the bachelor level:

  1. Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (Unistra/ASOIU)
  2. Bachelor of Computer Science (Unistra/ASOIU)
  3. Bachelor of Georphysical Engineering (Unistra/ASOIU)
  4. Bachelor of Oil $ Gas Engineering (Rennes 1 University / ASOIU)

At the end of these 4 years of training (one year foundation + three years of the French degree program), UFAZ students obtain a French national diploma (University of Starsbourg or University of Rennes 1 depending on the chosen specialty) and Azerbaijan diploma of the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU). 50% of the courses are provided by the French pedagogical team (composed of 4 permanent teachers seconded by the University of Strasburg and visiting professors from the universities and Strasburg and Rennes 1), and the remaining 50% by the Azerbaijan faculty (most of them having been trained abroad).

The main language of instruction in English, but French is taught throughout the  4 years of the curriculum so that students may, if they wish, continue their studies at the Master level in French, in a French-speaking country.
